The Aequoran High Inquisitor walked through the main thoroughfare of the township, his staff clicking on the old Imperial Flagstones that ran through the town. Beside him, warriors of his retinue stood ready to protect him. Somewhere somebody screamed in pain. Somewhere else, the building he passed he thinks, a woman cries and pleads for her life. The Inquisition had come to the capital of d'Perrini, and the High Inquisitor didn't even know its name. Nor did he care. Somebody had heard some terrible words and had told the Holy Mother Church of these words. The careful and quiet investigation had unearthed the terrible truth, and like avenging angels, the Inquisition had descended.

The High Inquisitor stopped as he entered the Townsquare and marveled what he saw. One of those d'Juliano … Whatever they called the Falling Blade. It was a collection of letters and vowels that made no sense to him. Its normal blade was stripped and shattered on those Imperial Flagstones and had been replaced with a Lightsilver version. He smiled and spread his arms wide. "You are sinners." He begins as he addresses the gathered captives. Former Townsfolk. One or two Hedge Knights, and he's pretty sure SOMEBODY in that crowd claims nobility. But again he doesn't care. "You are sinners." He repeats himself as he walks toward the PROPERLY outfitted Falling Blade. He shakes a finger. "You held a terrible secret. And that secret is an affront to the One and all His teachings."

Stopping beside the Falling Blade. "Fear not my children. The Holy Mother Church is here for you. To take from you your sins." He smiles. Fatherly and spreads his arms invitingly. "Confess. Repent. The Church will see your soul Cleansed so that you may bask in the Kingdom Of the Sun as the One shines down every morning." A woman stumbles forward crying and falls to her knees. She begs forgiveness and repents to the High Inquisitory admitting all her crimes. The man listens and then, making the sign of the One nods to one of his Guards. The man lifts her by her arms and drags her to the Falling Blade.

As she realizes what is happening the woman screams, "You said I would be forgiven! Please! You said I'd be Forgiven!!"

The High Inquisitor nods sadly. "You are my child. You are. As the Kingdom of the Sun rises each morning so too shall your soul. You are forgiven, but the price is this life. Go. With the One." He watches as she screams in horror as the Guard shoves her into the machine. This one didn't come with a spring like the d'Augustino contraption, instead, it was a clever mechanism of ropes and pulleys allowing gravity of all things to the work of the One. The guard pulls the rope. The woman's screams are silenced and the head rolls away in a gout of blood.

Looking up as the peasants, the few Hedge Knights and likely at least one gathered Noble begins to panic he marvels at the efficiency of his men. The disarmed the people of course. That was easy. So cowing this final act of Sin was easier for the Inquisition soldiers. By the time the Kingdom of the Sun rose the next day the Township was devoid of human life. The entire Township having been declared by the Inquisition to be covorting with the Abyss. The Falling Blade stood in that Townsquare painted completely red with still dripping blood. The heads left where they had fallen and rolled. The bodies stacked like cord wood.

The High Inquisitor nodded. The Work of the One had been done here. He looked North, and he and his retinue set off toward their next den of whispers.
