Dahlia

She had set up camp away from the rest of Elian's forces. A tent on the edge of the forest and a small campfire for cooking and warmth. She liked being alone and the closer she was to the wilderness, the more comfort she felt. This night, she felt it was time to write home. Thus, by the light of the campfire, the youngest d'Tremaine wrote to her beloved father.

Dear Daddy:

I am sorry for not having written sooner. I am well and serving with Sir Elian. You remember him don't you? I spent much time with him as a squire. We are doing what we can to assist Aequor in their conflict with the rebellious Queen Jasmina, but as you are aware of, it is a war of give and take.

Speaking of take. I wish you and mother to worry not about the capture of Elrick. Those in charge may not see his release as a priority or a possibility, but I do not. I have already set things in motion to bring your beloved son, my brother and your heir home safely. I am confident in my ability to find success, but as you know nothing is ever guaranteed.

Please know that I am doing all that I can to make you proud and to bring honor once more to our family name. There is so much I wish to tell you, but feel it best now to keep within myself. I cannot risk the interception of this letter revealing the weeks that lie ahead.

No matter what you hear, I need you to trust me and my judgement. I wish I could say more.

Give my love to mother. I know she must be beyond distraught. If this letter lessens her pain even the slightest then I have done what I have set out to do.

Be strong Daddy. d'Tremaine will rise again. I promise you. The next time I see you I will be with Elrick. I love you both dearly.

Here We Stand

~Dali

She took a deep breath and folded the letter, tucking it into her satchel. She would have it delivered in the morning. She laid down beside the fire and closed her eyes, the sound of Elian's men a ways of below lulling her to sleep.
