The letter was sitting on Mattias's desk. A simply red envelope with a black ribbon tied around and a black glob of wax for a seal. No crest is pressed into that glob, just a flat disk to press the wax in place. When the envelope is opened, a letter is reveled, written in a neat flowing hand.

Sir Thynne,

From a simply Guildsman, to Master, to Chancellor, you have certainly grown. I must say I have been impressed wiht rise to power, and who would have thought the Queen of Galenthia would Knight a simple Banker for simple an act as lighting a man on fire. Why, if that is all that would be taken into measure for Knighthood I image I would be a Knight of legend and story!

My apologies. I am rambling. I don't communicate much so this is a bit of a novelty for me. I write to you today to discuss Endings. Specifically your roll in the End. I wish to meet with you at the following location for our discussion. I'll bring Tea. I think you'll like the Tea I have, it is utterly out of this world! You may bring exactly one other person. Anbody over that, if you try to ambush me, if you so much as break the covenent and spirit of this meeting, and you will die screaming.

Oh my. Threats are fun. I forgot that!

However, for your plus one, may I suggest your earstwhile apprentice and protgee? She has come SO close to me over the years, I imagine the Baroness Shirlyn Tenebrae would relish the opportunity to look me in the eye at least once. Now. When you are finished reading this. Use your fire sorcery and burn it to Ash. Memorize the location written below my signature first though! I'd hate for you to get lost!

Remember. One other person. This is a meeting of Civilized minds. Let's keep it that way.

In good Faith

Oh, what does your side of the world call me? Ah yes….

The Powerful Man.

PS

I do so love that moniker. Did you know Myrana d'Armaz calls me the Man in Red? Such Dramatics.

So this was how it ended. Mattias smiled faintly and clasped his fingers together, grimacing as his shattered and gloved hand flexed beneath the tight leather glove he wore. The letter was plain enough and it would be foolish to try anything, the destruction of his spy network in Partharia proved that. Mattias held the letter within his ungloved hand, and within a second it burst into flame, the curling parchment discarded into a small metal box upon his desk for such things, and the lid dropped over the fiery inferno within. The location was noted. His plus one was evident. Informing anyone else? Pointless. Still. It had been a good run, and so Mattias set to writing out a letter to a certain acquaintance within the Guild. An accomplice in murder. And a partner in various adventures. One Baroness Tenebrae.

Baroness Tenebrae,

Forgive the formality, however I have the please of inviting you to the Bank to discuss matters of a nature fiscal. I urge that you arrive swiftly, and prepared to travel. I shall explain upon your arrival, and the funds of the Banking House are at your disposal to purchase any and all equipment you may think necessary. One speed.

Chancellor Mattias Thynne.

How does one explain that one is inviting them to their mutual death? A civilised death no doubt. But yes. Most likely a death nevertheless. Still… other matters needed attending to, and Mattias' last wish that his fortune be directed towards revenge was fruitless. A pointless endeavour. No number of soldiers could mark such a tally. Instead he instructed those closest to him within the Banking House to redirect the vast wealth he had accessto, to the defence of, and investment in the Free City State of Four Corners. In the event he never returned. Someone should benefit, more blood would be a fruitless endeavour. And so the wheels were set in motion…

A hastily written missive returns to The Banking House of Thynne via moongazer just days after it was received.

Chancellor Thynne,

I shall arrive quite quickly to Four Corners at your most urgent behest. Do stay well until I get there in what I would assume now is in twenty four hours or less.

Baroness Shirlyn Tenebrae
