Mattias

"Our Academy is an institution to be proud of, an Academy founded through common consent from the entire Senate of the West, likewise the fullest of support from the Council." After all, those Vir Sidus Charters had yet to be signed and deployed to those most worthy members of the Four Corners Senate, and the wealth each would provide was ample inducement indeed. Such is the way of democracy in Tirth.

"The recent murders of innocents by mobs roused to a bloody fury by our honoured guests the Reliants are most unfortunate, each cold-blooded murder has been avenged to the fullest extent." And indeed, the gallows were quite full, bodies swaying, tongues swollen, eyes red, and lips purple.

"The Reliant Order needs to understand that they are most welcome guests within our city, though their hands that have healed our sick for so long are now tainted with the blood of innocents, as indeed they would still be had they even succeeded in rousing that mob to kill a sorcerer." Mattias' voice stilled for a moment, his cold gaze settling upon the crowd so gathered before him, "I find that my respect for the Order has diminished, though in time perhaps that is something that can be repaired… rallying bloodthirsty criminals to attack innocents, because they were too cowardly to follow through on their own vitriol? No, it was far easier to rouse a mob and send them on their way, than to stand by their own words and run those poor innocents through with their own blades, which is what they ultimately did, they merely skipped the steps of drawing their own blades, and sheathing them in the hearts of those poor innocents, those citizens of Four Corners… a baker, a wife, a homeless child, the list goes on, a list I keep close to my heart, as I do the families so afflicted by the wanton carnage the Reliant Order levied upon our streets."

"I do however forgive the Reliants and their Grand Master for their bloodthirst, though their good and honest acts do not cleanse their hands of this taint, perhaps their future endeavours will go some way to cleansing this blackened mark upon their history and their lineage. With the backing of the Council, I censure the Order… I announce my disgust at the behaviour of those who were so swayed by such words of hatred and bile… and I shall ensure those families are looked after, as our dear guests should have both bodily and spiritually, instead of condemning them to death upon our streets. I may forgive, but I do not forget."

"The Academy stands tall and proud, it teaches those so affected by this state, this power that frightens them as much as it frightens you. They learn to control their powers in the safety of that great tower, overseen by the Ministry of Extraneous Affairs, a learned body of men and women, and if indeed there was one thing we have all learned, it is a condition that affects all… from the highest born, to the lowest. And yes it frightens us all, but know that the Academy stands to protect us all, to teach our dear students, and they are /OUR/ students, citizens and denizens of Four Corners, honoured guests, and they so ache to hone their craft, to harness those abilities for our good, to better themselves and better our city through association."

"The Church does indeed have a great concern, given they were controlled by a damnable demon of old, driven to wage war against Galenthia and Aequor, and as one who was caught within Rikton during the time of the Sealing, I can say that unbridled power is a thing of terror, and those things that skittered through the shadows of Rikton's beautiful streets railed against a tide of good, they sought to extinguish all that was decent, and it is only with the good students of our Academy, that we shall hold back the tide of evil that still lurks within the shadows."

Mattias paused for but a moment, his gloved hand splayed against his stomach, fingers stretched and faintly twitching as the usual pain and discomfort they caused remained masked upon the banker's face. The pause soon ended however, "They are as much a part of this city as anyone else, and though the Church in both guises has spilt blood upon these streets, the blood of innocents, both recently and back when their allies ran amok across those tenements that suffered so gravely, I forgive them. I shall however act as swiftly as I always have should any citizen within my city be threatened. I may have lost my entire family, but know that each and every one of you has replaced that emptiness tenfold."

"May the One bless each and all of you, our great institutions, and the city as a whole. May our forgiveness be felt by our brothers the Reliants, and may our new found agreement with the Vir Sidus Empire bring wealth and prosperity to each and every one of you eager and brave enough to rise to the challenge! Four Corners Charters are to be issued to those Guilds and laymen who seek to aid our dear ally, and I have no doubt that Four Corners will rise to the challenge, for it has always loved the underdog, from our beautiful Academy, to those refugees we welcome with open arms from those Kingdoms beset by war and famine, to our dear allies of the North, the Vir Sidus. Your guild representative shall have all the details."

And that said, Mattias bows to the crowd, something he hardly ever does to those so-called nobles, and steps back and away into the fortress of his bank. Back in Nylan Fortress, the Grand Master as Mattias and the Council members resolutely called her had spent the day apologising to the Chancellor, having overstepped a line. Several of the more active Reliants had even been seen performing a public penance, while the bodies of those who had murdered the innocents swung from the gallows. An agreement had been made, for Mattias had made sure the Grand Master understood just what Four Corners had given them, and their repayment for that kindness was one that would not stand. Though no threats were made, there had been a certain chill in the air, and Mattias' reputation had carried the day. A chastened Grand Master, and several humbled Reliants later, the Chancellor had left to deliver his speech, with an accord between Four Corners and the Reliants. A peace of sorts.

And so the support of the Council in the chastening of the Reliant Order soon saw various Charters issued, and expeditions arranged. It would seem that the Vir Sidus would soon find themselves blessed with craftsmen of good standing, and each so blessed with the Chancellor's permissions all etched upon beautiful vellum.
