Mattias

"How intriguing." Mattias' tilted head regarded the encoded letter before him with some measure of amusement, "It would appear the Aequorians are suffering somewhat. I should imagine that fleet sent a veritable chill down the spines of those unfortunate to be present."

As ever though, little to no emotion registered upon his features as he scanned the letters various details. Just an appraisal of all that was before him. And within but a few moments, several trusted scribes and messengers were arrayed before his desk. Each having their individual letters dictated to them by the Chancellor himself as he sat before them, kaffe in hand and an idle half-smile etched upon his lips.

"To the following mercenary companies, their names are…" A small scrap of parchment was pushed towards one Scribe, "… and they are to be recalled to serve their home city. Payment subject to contract. And that shall see the seaward batteries and landward batteries manned accordingly, see to it that those of the Guild of Artillerists and Ordnance are also informed, their expertise will be necessary. A lot of gold was spent on those batteries of artillery. May we never suffer a repeat of eighteen sixty five."

"To the Greycloak High Constable, inform him of the details so provided. Patrols are to continue, and likewise they are to command the seconded Mercenary Companies until further notice as is their writ. White Hall traders are to be searched. And their vessels may only dock one at a time under the supervision of the Greycloaks. Likewise they are to begin drills regarding the defense of the city, drills that shall be unseen by the populace, given they'll be within the walls themselves. No need to worry our citizens unduly. Unfortunate. But these are the times we live in, any complaints from our most loyal Jarls, then do send them to me. Any vessel not flying a flag of peaceful intent or complying with the orders of the Dockmaster is to be sent to the depths after a single warning." A sip of kaffe punctuated Mattias' idle dictation.

"See that the Captains of the Adriono and the Gerrick reposition their vessels in order to bolster the seaward batteries to their utmost potential. Send them a barrel of rum apiece for them and their fine crews, ensure that they work in tandem with the High Constable, and I'm sure they shall. Good men one and all. Privateer patrols are to be maintained, see that several vessels are seconded to scouting and protecting our waters. Likewise send word to the Julietta currently protecting Rikton, inform them of what has occurred and allow them to inform the necessary authorities within our holiest of cities."

The scribes nodded as one as the scritch and scratch of quills over parchment filled the office.

"Patrols of our lands are to be supplemented by suitably skilled mercenary companies, the watchtowers and barracks utilised accordingly. Our roads have been peaceful for a good while now, let us not see them fall to enemy intrusion or malfeasance." Mattias intoned as if such an occurrence would be frightfully dull to deal with, "And any large gathering of White Hallers is to be monitored accordingly, likewise Partharians."

Again the scritch of quill upon parchment filled the office as Mattias leaned back within his chair and gazed for a moment at the ceiling, "Aequorian goods are likely to become a trifle rare should this unfortunate episode continue in conjunction with what it occurring further north. Inform the Guildmasters of any trade related Guild of these occurrences and nothing more. They'll either adjust their dealings accordingly, or flounder, it is not for us to save those who can't adapt. I shall see that my own guildmembers are ready work alongside those who find success or failure in the coming months." And by that, he likely means seizing assets of failed business ventures who owe coin to those within his Guild.

"So all in all my dear scribes, let us prepare for peace." Mattias finally sat forward and smiled, a bright if oddly grim smile, "And may our dear friends keep their little squabbles contained." And soon enough, with the letters so written and sealed one after the other, messengers are scurrying throughout the city to deliver the fresh tidings from the Chancellor.
