The trek was long, cold and frankly miserable. Most of the Legion had been trained on how to Ski, but many of them were simply no good at it. It was slow going, it was hard, and even with fire running through his blood the Princeps was pretty sure his toes were going to freeze off. However, after three very long days, the Legio XIII Asterrea crossed the last bit of the Eregonian Mountains at Lake Heavens and entered from Imperial Controlled lands into the Colonial Lands of the West, taking a small and very anccient trade road that led further south and west.

Darius stood on the hill looking out over lands nobody from the Empire save a few diplomats had seen since the Punishment War against Marinor. His striking blue eyes scanned the valley before him and the ruined castle of d'Mollari, whatever the Abyss it was called, that lay before him. He took a deep, and very cold breath. "Fuck me." He said calmly and evenly. One of his men looked at him with a raised eyebrow. "This place looks boring as Abyss." The soldier laughed and went about his business and Darius had to smile.

He ordered the Asterrea to advance on the ruins, the nearly ten thousand men had been mostly unmolested since that first skirmish as they crossed the frozen Lake Divinity. Here too they found the same, nothing but a few scouting parties of the Savages, and one armed group forcing Colonials in a labor camp. While the Empire had no issues with Slavery, being enslaved to Savages, even if one was a Colonial was demeaning. The Colonials at the least followed the One, even if their practices were wrong. He ordered the 9th Cohort to see to freeing them, while the rest of the Asterrea finished arriving at the ruined fortress and savaged town around it.

Darius stood on a mostly intact wall and frowned deeply. The Town had clearly been attacked by Qatanex. He could see the fire damage, and the walls themselves were scorched in more than a dozen places. Their fire-lances had played merry abyss with the defenses of the Colonials and he sighed. His people hadn't faired much better. Finally with a nod he spoke. "Order the rest of the Cohorts to build an earthen fortification around the town. We're here for the Winter at the least." He looked out over the wall he stood on. "Have some Engineers see about shoring up the wall. The Prime Cohort and the Officers will bunk here in the Keep, it looks to have survived intact, but I want the wall sturdy and defensible again." He nodded again. "Once the Earthworks are up, we can see about finding more Colonials to rescue. Bring the ones the Eighth was sent to me once they return. We'll put them to work, but this time they'll be paid, and citizens of the Empire. We defend and protect our own. As of now, the lands of d'Mollari belong to Me, the Princeps of the Vir Sidus Empire and llast member of the House of Firebrand." He paused and then added, "Send the Pathfinders out as well."

Tribunes saluted and Darius watched as orders were passed out. Men began to be organized into work crews, while others kept watch. Luminetei strode out to keep an eye out for the enemy or to see about finding other survivors in this land. His primary mission was the eradication of the Savages, but he wouldn't turn a blind eye to be people of this land, he wouldn't ignore them like the Colonial power of Aequor had. He'd save them, and bring civilization back to the West, and shake the earth.
