Shirlyn, after reaching Ironhold, has arrived to find there are missives waiting for her. How? She isn’t telling, but with rumors abound about Arkanin, she writes back to her Father and Uncle Xavier.

Father,

My missives to Uncle Xavier have been heard and processed. I am sorry that I cannot be there the help in this troubling time for Arkanin, but know I will do my best by our house and hearth. Uncle has asked that you raise your banners, which I’m sure by now you most certainly have. I have never known you to not fight for what you have. I have things that I am dealing with right now that may or may not help, for now I will endeavor to be as useful as I can be outside of Arkanin.

Please help them, they need it.

Walk in the light of the One.

With love,

~Shirlyn

Dearest Uncle,

I am glad my missives have made it to you, I am here in Ironhold on business. I will redirect any aid until I have a chance to speak to the Queen. One knows a skirmish is fine and a splendid time, but a war is not. It is with hope that she will receive my words well enough. Know that I am on the side of Arkanin, always, even if to others it does not seem as such.

I am sorry for the loss of your daughter, as I heard when we came to Ironhold. I expected no less, to be honest, and those are not bandits that did the deed. I will look into this further if I have time. I am just glad that I was able to talk Evae out of dressing and pretending to be Jaelynn to flee the city. Or you would’ve lost more than one daughter in this fight.

To be fair, your daughter had our council in the matter, and she did well enough to get a few days head start. I will take full blame for her not taking the deal, my lord. I was the one to tell her that d’Armaz’s deal was not but a ruse. Controlling imports and exports for all of Arkanin and then torching it anyway.

Can you imagine what it would do to your golden duchy if he were to torch you anyway and have you beholden to buying only from him via contract? Having only little export because everything is gone. Ah… he’d drain away our coin fast as anything, wealth is sometimes a fine enough motivator for lesser men. He thinks himself clever, but he hadn’t met me. It was clear enough to see his plan, he is not as clever as he’d like to think he is.

I have heard about Lee, not a good state, and so deep into the duchy. I shall give you something to ponder uncle to give credence to my thoughts. How is it they got so far into the duchy so fast, if they had made it seem they’re on the move just now? Surely they’ve been there for quite some time.

Go, uncle, have your battle. Give them the call of the Rabid Wolf. I have written my father, he should be raising his banners as you read this. If not already done so.

I will pray for you all, that’s the only womanly sensibility you’ll get out of me, and keep you ever in my thoughts as I go about my business.

Love your dear niece,

~Shirlyn
