A note is brought to Adriono with his breakfast one morning along with his private reports of his daughter’s doings. The young woman, normally somewhat indolent and softhearted. With her elder brother Nicolo away, it has caused something of a stir in the Syndicate grapevine; Myrana D’Armaz has stepped up to fill her brother’s shoes, showing none of her normal mercy or reluctance in these matters. Usually she would be the one to go to to beg clemency. But not now; she’s showing claws most didn’t even know she had. Night before last she burned a man’s gondola and had him thrown in the canal. Two nights past, a soldato suspected of informing to the Kentaire syndicate was found half-eaten by rats. She tracked him down in the slums. He was left without an arm to die of bloodloss. She has hardly been at the manor itself, and Samuel and Ravio accompany her everywhere, with none of her usual game of losing them in crowds. Likewise she's obeyed his orders to entertain Casimir al'Mordran to the letter, and has spent much time in his company.

The note is tucked under the demitasse of kaffe. In it is Myrana’s handwriting:

I am determined to mend your faith in me.
