Your Majesty,

I hope it will please you to know that the Princess Alessandra, my family, and myself have all arrived in Ironhold safely. The defense of Four Corners was a chaotic affair, but I would like to hope that the ability men and women of all kingdoms showed to pull together and fight alongside each other in common cause bodes well for your hopes and plans for the future. Duke Tarris led the counterattack and together warriors of all nations pushed them back into the sea. I would dub it glorious, but we both well know the truth of war.

I wish that all my tidings were pleasant news, but I fear this is not the case. Forgive me if my words are clumsy, but I still have difficulty fathoming the situation. As you may or may not be aware, Henric had a certain infatuation with my betrothed, Princess Alessandra al'Ramar. He had previously rescued her from a bandit attack following one of the Four Corners Tournaments, and he carried her favor in the Nylan Fortress tourney.

Aware that there was a certain attraction between them, prior to my departure for Aequor, I asked my brother if he would prefer that I refuse Princess Alessa's hand were it offered. I suspected there was a considerable chance that it was she the al'Ramars would agree to, as no doubt they would not wish to risk the ire of vassals and smallfolk alike in wedding their eldest to a man of Galenthia, no matter how storied that man may be. Henric bade me to accept if she were offered, and gave such a union his blessing, insofar as such a blessing was his right to give.

So it came as a considerable shock to me when the Princess Alessa confided to me that Henric had come to her and confessed his love to her when we stopped in Four Corners on our return trip…shortly before the raid. I am fully of the belief that this action was taken without awareness of the larger implications that potentially disrupting my betrothal would entail. Indeed, I cannot rightly say that disrupting the betrothal was Henric's intent in the least. He admits to these events having occurred, and has tendered an apology to me. I have commanded that his travel to and from Ironhold be monitored and that he not be in the presence of the Princess save for when myself or Lady Raelyn stands as chaperone.

However, I recognize that his actions may have risked endangering your own desires and wishes for this marriage, and because he is a Knight sworn to House Romante as a Royal Lancer, I have sent this missive to inform you of his behavior. Henric himself will have informed the Viscount Letholdus Romante of this affair at my urging, as it was the Viscount to whom his sword was pledged when these events transpired. I have little doubt you will wish to speak with him yourself, and he awaits your summons when it comes.

You know me as well as anyone, Your Majesty, so I will not belabor you with please for leniency. I have addressed what wrong I felt was done to me personally and levied punishment in a manner I deem fair recompense for that wrong. Only you and the Viscount can determine whether his behavior demands further disciplinary action be levied, with your word of course being the final one on the matter. I am reasonably assured that his contriteness on the matter is genuine, but contrition does not erase the deed that engendered it. So I trust his fate to the wisdom and mercy of yourself and Viscount Letholdus. I would be remiss, however, if I did not mention that Henric took injuries which festered while attempting to return to Four Corners to help lift the siege of White Hall. He has not yet fully recovered, though under the skilled treatment of Lady Claire, he is growing stronger by the day. I inform you that you may be aware that his arrival may be somewhat delayed, as traveling with haste is something he is likely not yet ready for.

Your Obedient Servant,

Jaren Cassomir, Viscount of Ironhold

P.S. I imagine that the Princess Alessandra and myself will depart for Firen within the week, that she may be properly introduced to you. I will send another message upon that departure.
