Four Corners - Docks

There isn't a ship afloat that hasn't been through the logbooks of the dock-master of the Free City of Four Corners… at least, if you listen to the dock-master.

Ships of every description, from private yachts and slender fishing knars to big-bellied merchant cogs and bristling naval brigantines. Dockworkers and sailors with tattoos and tattered breeches, errand-boys running underfoot and over crate, fishermen fixing nets, wealthy merchants attended by slaves and bookkeepers and travelers, sightseers and more, all of them here where the ships are loaded and unloaded beneath the wheeling gulls. Businesses catering to the sailors and men who work her crowd the dock front, with restaurants, taverns, whorehouses, bonesaws, pitch-vats, money-changers, bounty-offices and shipwrights all fighting for space. This too is where the fishing boats unload their daily catches. There is a fishmarket right on one of the more rickety quays where one can find bright silver tuna, swordfish, cod, bass, anglerfish, grouper, mussels, abalone, huge prawns and tiny shrimp and anchovies, squid, enormous mottled lobsters, crabs, spiky urchins eel, salmon, even monster tuna. Waterbirds of various types are here as well, such as tern, cormorant, swan and heron.

The mid-day business of the docks would be a good place if one's going to hand over something to someone else without wanting too many people to see. So Jarret sent over a note to Viola asking for her to come there. He's currently sitting on a barrel by a wall, looking out at the ships and the general happenings there. Whistling a little to himself as he does.

The docks was a fine enough place to go unseen, people often saw a lot of nothing there. Much like the slum. Just the docks had a bit more fresh air. The note had been a curiosity to Viola, but then there was a lot of curious things of late. The priestess wasn't an uncommon sight at the docks, but then there also were plenty of lower clergy around the city like herself to not draw much attention. With a meeting meant to happen, she is on the look out for Jarret. And there he is over on yon barrel. A tip of her head,"Good day to you, Sir." Avoiding the names, given the choise of places and seeming to not one to be seen and the like.

Looking up as Viola approaches, the Sokar offers her a smile. "To you as well," he replies. "Thank you for coming." Reaching inside his cloak to retrieve a document, handing it over. "With all the happenings the last few times we have met, I forgot. Back during the early part of the mess at the hospital a little while back, I was told to get this to you. I could have suggested we'd meet at the Porpoise, but less chance of someone that shouldn't be watching seeing it here." A glance around, before he pulls out a small flask as well. "I seem to remember the last time you patched me up after a fight, that you suggested we'd have something to drink?" Said a bit lightly.

Viola watches that hand vanish into his cloak, only to reappear with papers and not..well a wepoan or a flask. The document is thusly accepted, a glance at it before it is tucked away into her robes. "Good decision, as I do think the Porpoise does have a few eyes keeping watch over it." Even if Havelock tends to be the one in the group that gets actively targetted the most. "Who are these from?" An ah-ha, that flask appears,"A bit to drink in these times is always a fine idea."

Jarret smiles, handing over the flask. "There's at least a few different people watching the Porpoise, that I know of." A brief pause as he glances around again, before he offers a brief smile. "A certain lady we both know, who knows this city quite well," he offers.

Viola accepts the flask and after a faint sniff takes a swig. Habbit from time on the road. "That doesn't surprise me none at all. Seems there are plenty of eyes on the look out these days." Viola's brows rise before she nods,"I see. I guess I'll give it a read when I have a moment then."

"She seemed quite concerned about it reaching you," Jarret replies, nodding a little as he pulls out another flask like the first, to take a sip as well. Glancing out to the ships out there. "I've always liked the sea, it calms me," he offers, words kept a bit quiet.

Viola nods,"I will make sure to read it sooner rather than later then." Taking another drink from the flask. The priestess giving the harbor a look. "I wreckin' I don't find that to surprising coming from you. Your family has a history with the sea, if I recall."

Jarret chuckles, "True. We have a history with the sea. I think my sister's the one that's felt closest to it, though." There's a brief smile, before he adds, "How about you?"

Viola takes another drink from that flask as she listens to Jarret. A nod given about his sister. Handing that flask back as she answers the question,"I have always enjoyed the sea, or rightly any water. I have a bit of a fondness for swimming when time and oppurtunity allows." She did have reading to do later, best not to get tipsy and accidently burn the papers!

Jarret smiles as he takes back the flask as it's handed to him, taking a sip of the other one. "Ah, swimming. Let's hope that time and opportunity will allow for that soon," he replies, nodding a bit quietly.

Viola nods. "I hope for it. Least there are usually plenty of places round here." Something about endless canals and docks themselves. "Now if things might settle down. I do have a standing promise that is years over due for a beach trip. But the One just doesn't seem to give me the time to take that offer and promise up."

"Most of us probably could need some time to relax and recover a bit before the next troubles arrive," Jarret replies, with a quiet smile. "Because these days, I suspect some other trouble will come up every now and then."

Viola says, "I do agree, these past years have seemed one thing endlessly after another. " Viola nods in agreement. "It does seem that way, and sometimes trouble seems ta come up before the current one has passed."

"How much easier things were back before these last few years," Jarret replies, a bit thoughtfully. "It feels like the person I am now isn't me, but someone else…"

Viola says, "A lot has changed in these past years, and I dare say that there isn't a soul who's gone through what we have that is still the person they once were. And no doubt a fair few like you are questioning where the person has done and gone to."

Jarret nods as he hears that. "What's done is done," he offers, after a few moments of pause. Taking another sip, before he sighs, "I suppose we all have things we need to take care of…"

Viola says, "Yeah, it is. It is always best to move on, but not to forget." Or something like that. "We do. And seems I have a bit of reading to catch up. It was fine seeing you once more. And with the way life is of late, I am sure we'll see each other again soon enough."

Jarret smiles, nodding a little. "I'll be looking forward to the next time our paths cross, it's always a pleasure," he replies.

Viola grins,"Just lets hope I don't need to be bandaging you up that next time. That seems to frequent a thing in our meetings." Giving a wink,"better to share a drink, eh? But I best get on. Til next time, Sir." A slight incline of her head offered before she continues on down the docks.
