Four Corners - Perky Porpoise Inn - Vigil Common Room
This central room, accessed through a large hollowed barrel has three doorways leading off into the other parts of the Vigil outpost. The room is given over to a large fireplace, the chimney deviating slightly to take into account the fireplace in the Inn above, allowing for a good measure of heat to fill the other cold depths of this subterranean lair of the Vigil. Thick rugs of Aequorian wool muffle the cold flagstones, while heavy and layered tapestries of various design from both north and south cover the walls to further trap the heat within. While a large table dominates the room, flanked either side by benches, several chairs are scattered about and mostly positioned over by the fire for the warmth. A smaller door leads off into the cold stores, the room laden with supplies of food and other healing sundries.

It is a couple of hours later that Havelock returns, having distracted the Cardinal's Captain utterly by escaping out the front door to the cries of 'Heretic' while shoving some poor fellow bodily out the way. The returning Reliant is careful as he makes his way down the steps and through the barrel, drinking in the scope of the Vigil facilities with something akin to awe, given he was rather expecting a small room and a sack of stale bread and even staler water. "It's me, Havelock, is all well?", the words echo softly, "I have to admit, I was expecting something a little less… so." Setting down his own meagre supplies that he had thought might well be required, Havelock clad in his own robes and a cloak for good measure, unfolds the cloak from about his shoulders and gives a lazy stretch as he rests his calloused hands against the large table that dominates the room, "We should be quite safe here."

Viola had gotten Marbles and Myrana both settled into one of the rooms of the vast accomadations. It had been quite beyond anything Viola had expected in stepping down the stairs. The sound of the door opening had Viola on guard, but to hear Havelock's voice, the priestess had eased up. "Yes, all is well. And you? " Continuing on after a moment,"Our…friend, is sleeping. And I think the Lady is a bit befuddled on what is going on, I fear I couldn't help clear matters up to much." Viola nods,"It is beyond anything I expected as well. I have had some wonder if it has been ever put to use. There is room for many down here to continue on comfortably." With it just him present, Viola does shift to sit back at the table. "I haven't been able to get much more out of him, least he is resting a touch now. The item he handed over to you is another matter."

There's a smile as Havelock spies Viola, the knight relaxing in turn as indeed all seems to have worked out and with Viola's report, the Reliant seems more at ease as he listens, "I think it'll take a couple of days before he is truly comfortable enough to tell us what happened, he is scarred beyond reckoning given what little we got from him upstairs as he joined us." A gentle shake of his head and Havelock exhales, "But he is in good hands with us, no finer hands to be in." As to the mention of the item, the Reliant certainly quirks a brow, "You've looked at it then? What is it?" The question asked as he reaches down to tug a round-bottomed bottle of fortified wine from his pack of supplies, setting the Monastic and Galenthian tipple on the table alongside a couple more bottles, several bundles of bandages and a few jars of varied ointments, "Felt solid enough."

Viola nods,"If then. Does seem he's gotten an awful fright and honestly, with the way he's been going on, almost seems like he's got some sort of…I don't know, sight? He spoke about futures, and I heard tales of folks who could see things. Usually seemed some sort of trick in them passing passing entertainments. But after what happened in Rikton?" Viola shrugs,"Rather got a bit of an open mind about what may or may not be possible." Vampires and blood moons does make one have to re-evaluate things a little. "Hopefully with a bit of rest, he'll have more of his mind about him. If nothing else, it is safer hear, but I do imagine them guards of the Cardinal ain't non-to =-pleased at the moment." Another nod comes as she pulls the item in question out from her robes and sets it to the table. Pealing back a bit of the wrapped for Havelock to see,"It's a brooch. I was careful not to take it out with Lady Myrana about. With not being sure what's going on, figured it might be best to see which direction we need ta go with things first. And he sought ya out for help." Not one of the fancy noble or merhant families of the free city. "There is a bit of writing on the wrapper as well, and the metal..it's odd. Hot to the touch, not quite enough ta burn ya, but still not something ya would want to hold on to for all to long."

Hot metal? Havelock does what anyone would probably do and reaches out tentatively to place his fingers against the brooch to see just how that feels, "That is…" For as long as he can bear, his fingers remain against the brooch before drawing away and regarded by the oh so curious Reliant, fingers wiggled slowly and the sensation rubbed away between thumb and forefinger and plenty more wiggling of fingers, "That is indeed better off in our care than the care of…" Havelock's brow furrows, "What did he call him? The Man in Red? I would wager that the guards sent to arrest this man wanted this, or simply wanted the man and all that was on his person given what he claims to have seen. We need to find that village… though you mention writing on the wrapper." Havelock's attention flits from his fingers to Viola, "Is it readable?"

Viola's watches as Havelock touches the brooch, that looks like a bit of heraldy by al rights. Just no one of any they've ever come across. "Odd, and strange. Almost like it's been recently forged and left to cool. Yet, that ain't possible." A nod comes,"Yes, that was what he called….who ever he is. Said he didn't have a name, was just the Man in Red. Kept going on about all the red. And I wreckin' that is the case, wanting what he had and getting him away before someone might get more from him to find out the truth of what he saw, or was a part of." Not entirely ruling out the man took part in something, not til more is known. Viola's fingers pull back more of the wrapping to show some of the words, most written in one hand, one line in another, all in the Old Tongue. "It is readable, though it is written in the Old Tongue." A faint look to him. Reliant, but not all exactly took to the scholarly pursuits. Her fingers dance over the words as she speaks them, though quietly,"In the Absence of light darkness will suffice, in the absence of darkness, the light will suffice, through blood we walk, through wars we forge, and the Empire does not kneel, but an Emperor once did." Her fingers drift to the words in the different hand,"Here it says…Where did he kneel?…Has me wondering if the village in question was where this piece was coming from, or a spot thought to answer that question."

Havelock's look is indeed one of cluelessness, "Not one of the languages I studied." Albeit a clueless look tempered with a crooked smile as Viola begins to read the words written. Quiet, focused and none the wiser as the riddle is spoken and even as Viola speaks, Havelock himself watches her fingers trail against the words as she speaks, "Could well be, if such a village has inspired such horrors in our guest, it would well be the place to start." For a moment or two, Havelock stays silent, just letting it all sink in as he shifts to rest his hip against the edge of the table and lift his gaze from the writing to Viola, "I cannot think of anyone else I would rather be in this predicament with, we'll find this village, we'll do whatever needs to be done and no doubt collect another scar or two in the process and I'm sure our noble friends will be of assistance."

Viola's lips quirk into a smile,"Not everyone spends most of the childhood buried in the Churches libaries." A hand motions towards that area of books..which rivals many a libary,"Though seems we do have some resources here as well." Viola nods,"It seems a place we need to find and see about. If some horror did happen there, hopefully we can get some information out of him to see to it. Else we might need to see just what that Captian…Marissa was it? Delivers on to the Order,"his, not hers," in way of his crimes." With the words read, Viola does wrap the brooch back up. "I do imagine we'll end up with a few more scars for certain. " A finger taps on the table as her eyes shift back towards the library. "Might be worth taking a look to see if something matching the looks of that brooch is ta be found."

Havelock follows Viola's gesture towards the library and nods, "It would seem that having avoided libraries for so many years, the library has finally found me, I think that it is as good a place as any to start and I am sure our Order is well stocked in such knowledge." The Reliant has it would seem, the utmost faith in the Vigilant Order and there is something of a smile, an oh so crooked and mischievous smile that slowly forms upon Havelock's face, "Lord Jarret seemed from what brief glimpse I had to have struck a chord with her, perhaps he can also aid us in that respect? Though I shall also reach out to my fellow Reliants for I am sure word will reach them from one source or another." The all too crooked smile remains as Havelock lets slip a brief flutter of laughter, "And our other guest, is she traumatised by her experience with our gallant pirate?"

"It seems a prudent thing to least take a look and see if something might be found, and we do have some time," says Viola, a mild motion of her hand towards the room Marbles is resting currently. "But you are right, they do seem to have a right store of knowledge…amongst other things." That hand giving a motion towards the armory and all the shiny it holds. It was an impressive sight all on its own. Even more so, since the priestess has seen a similiar stock in Rikton. "Did he now?" Viola curious somewhat, having missed some of that exchange it seems. "If he might be of help, that would be good. And best to give the other Reliants a heads up if nothing else. But might be fair enough to keep quiet on just where we've stashed away. Don't imagine the Order will take kindly to everyone coming ta know about this place." Flashing a smile of her own. Though mention of the other guest does have Viola glancing on towards where the noble rests. "She did seem a bit put out. And I don't imagine her own guard is much happy at the moment given how he seemed to react to that little interaction. And now she's as missing as we are."

"Oh of that we both agree, I can get word to her bodyguard and the order, simply to let them know all is well. I'll slip out and find him, he's bound to be close to hand and the less trouble there is concerning missing people the better and even though I doubt their tale is true, that our new friend is a murderer, let us remain watchful." Havelock states as he finally reaches up to rub at his face, scritching fingers through his shaggy goatee of a beard. Too much time spent in the slums and hiding than tending to his appearance it would seem, though even for a slum-surgeon, he smells decent enough thank the One. A glance back to the library and Havelock's smile twitches, "A first time for everything, though first I shall let all who need to know that we are safe and our noble guest equally so, no doubt our barkeep friend above can ensure messages are delivered swiftly and without undue attention and perhaps when all is said and done, when our guard can finally relent." That smile broadens somewhat as his attention easily drifts back to Viola, "We can find some distraction in something that doesn't involve conspiracies, evil and murder."

"I do agree, I don't quite believe their tale of what passed. But it is best not to let our guard down until we have more information about what /did/ happen. " Viola was ina bit better shape. But as healers, both did know that there was a need for clean when it came to practicing their arts. And least in the 4C, even the slums, there was not a lack of water like on the road. "Best see to that first, we don't need people tearing up the city looking for folks. Might do, if the Reliants be willing to give a little misdirection on where the fine Captian and her folks are looking to." A smile comes at that idea,"I do think that is a fine idea. And I dare say, you still owe me a once talked about escape to a fine beach and warm sun." Letting a bit of a dramatic sigh,"But til then, oddly warm steel and a chance at more scars, it is." Viola giving a wink in the end.

Havelock smiles warmly, crookedly given a scar or two, but warmly all the same as he gently inclines his head, "One of these days, though perhaps even the promised dip in a cold river might be the closest we'll get." A gentle laugh follows his words as he straightens and pushes away from the table, "They might just be agreeable to that and I shall go and see to it." That smile remains however, at least while he ponders the prospect of warmer climes and relaxing, relaxing with a battle priestess too! But such thoughts end and Havelock glances towards the exit, "I shan't be long, once done I'll check our stocks and join you in the library."

Viola returns the warm smile with ease, blessedly, most of her battle scars hidden well beneath those robes. Or perhaps not so, blessed, depending on how one looks at it. "It might well be, but I shan't complain if that is what is had at hand." The priestess had been one rarely to complain. Viola rises up to her feet as well, that brooch getting safely tucked on away again. "I figured they just might, given the current…climate." That thought of warmer climates was a fine one. Now, if it could ever come to be is another story. Perhaps one day the One would allow it. "I'll give a check on our guests and get to wandering through some of those books and see what I might find up. Be safe, the One walk with you, Havelock." Viola giving a smile before they part ways to see to matters.
