Perky Porpoise Inn - Four Corners
Sailors from all around the known world cram into the chairs and tables of Four Corners' most famous dock-side establishment, fighting for elbow-room with adventurous locals and merchant's men. It's possible to hear gossip from the most unlikely of places while enjoying the cheap, entirely palatable seaside fare… though picking one voice out from the many is sometimes difficult in the incredible din created by all the laughter, shouting, cheering, talking, even fighting. It is a sprawling place, with several rooms to let and a huge public room that spills through double doors and into the street with wooden tables and chairs tended by attractive servers with platters of cups and plates. It is open at all hours, lit during the day by open-slatted windows and by night by tin-and-glass lamps cut with silhouettes of mermaids. The walls are whitewashed and a small stage is stuck in one corner for musical performances. Every form of entertainment can be had here, and the city guard is rarely seen.
Juillet 20th, 1866

An early evening it is at the Perky Porpoise Inn, and the place is reasonably packed with people, the buzz of ongoing conversations, with the occasional addition of shouts and laughter fills the common room, the clientele at the moment of blend of lower commoners, merchants and even some nobles. Seated at a table in the corner is the Pearl of Four Corners, attired in a blue dress of fine quality, adequate for a noble lady of good standing, cut out moderately at the front to offer a pleasing view of her comely decollete, where a necklace with a fine silver pendant draws the eye. Her dark-brown tresses have been arranged in a fashionable hairdo, pinned up as to draw attention to her long slender neck. Hazel-brown eyes roam the common room, now and then drifting towards the door, as if she were expecting someone, a goblet and a flagon of red wine are before her on the table that has two more vacant chairs.

It is sort of a new venture the pretending to not know someone whom you in face know as very few do, but it is necessary as well and so a flawless performance is called for. Francois will step through the doors into the noise of talk and chatter among the patrons. He will look to the bar and move that way first. He has seen the pearl though and his thoughts and heartbeat betray the gladness to do so, but outwardly he’ll order a drink and glance about the place idly.

The Viscount is dressed in finely made clothes but normal clothes not a stand out or anything though he’s learned he cannot walk as hidden among people as he’d thought. It will be a moments before he accepts his drink and finally he “spots” an acquaintance across the crowd paying for the drink he’ll move through the crowd. “Ah, Mistress Julieta it is good to see you. Would you mind if I joined?” he asks for benefit of anyone sitting close enough by, though she may see if she meets his gaze his true feelings for the meeting though hidden from the others.

Julieta looks up, glancing towards the door as it opens and the Viscount d’Cadri enters, her gaze lingering on him briefly. She catches her bottom lip with her teeth, as her attention shifts back to the goblet of wine before her, and she shifts in her seat. Noting the approach of Francois, her eyes are raised once again to look his way, a smile curling her lips. “Your Excellency,” she greets, rising to her feet to offer him a graceful curtsey, lowering her gaze momentarily. “I would be honoured,” said as those hazel-brown eyes are raised to meet his, amusement glinting within them. “You are here in Four Corners?”, she intones, glancing about them to gauge perhaps if their conversation is overheard, before she sits down, a hand gesturing towards the vacant seats, one of which is free for him to pick.

“The honor is mine of course.” Francois says politely bowing in return to her “Thank you, and yes luckily so the events to be hosted here have brought me back to spectate.” He explains the meeting of gazes smirks his lips, but he will move to accept the offered seat. It is good that she sits in the corner table as they don’t seem to be overheard and with his back to the crowd he does block some of the view of them both. “How have you fared since our previous meeting?” he asks which is innocent enough for those who might have only seen them walking a tour before though he means the previous meeting making sure she as well. He takes a drink while awaiting a response.

“It has been a year, has it not?”, the courtesan inquires with a melodious chuckle. “And yes… I am glad there is finally some social activity back at Four Corners. Tournaments, feasts, events, they draw visitors from outside of Four Corners, such as yourself. I am looking forward indeed, to make new acquaintances, and renew others. Things have been going well for me,” Julieta assures with a smile, replying to his question in a manner appropriate for those in attendance. Her gaze lingers on Francois, some sentiment flashing there, as her lower arms come to rest on the table, crossing before her as leans a bit forward.

“In fact…”, the Pearl murmurs, her eyes glinting mischievously, “I needed a few days to recover from the delightful evening and morning we shared, Francois.” Her cheeks pinkening a touch as she leans back in her seat again and takes another sip of wine, considering the Viscount with a hint of fondness over the rim of her goblet.

“What are your plans for your stay, Your Excellency? I’ve given you a tour of the city before. Perhaps you want to revisit some of those places?”, Julieta inquires, her tone showing casual curiosity.

“It has indeed, quite a time.” Francois speaks for the crowd though he grins himself nodding about the events. “They should be interesting though I am not competing simply watching the tournament. I am honored to be welcomed by such a guide as yourself.” He says properly taking a drink from his own glass

“I am glad to hear things have been well for your Mistress Julieta.” He says many meanings to his words though public gets the simple basics, the care is hard to hide in his gaze for her as they meet briefly. He will lean to grab an item from the center of the table listening to her words. He will speak in lowered whisper. “I admit I needed such myself, I have missed you my love.” The Viscount sits back up straight a flyer for events in hand

“I believe some of the sights are in order as well as seeing the events of the tournament, perhaps we shall run into one another? It is at least good to have one acquaintance in a city when visiting. Since his back is covering him from the crowd for the most part he will quickly write something on the flyer. ‘I have had something made especially for you, meet in my inn-room when able?’ before speaking again. “Have you seen the list of events?”

“The honour is all mine, Your Excellency,” Julieta replies, all politeness, a slight incline of her head offered along with the words. “You have come here on your own, without any of your family?”, she inquires next, a question dictated by common courtesy. Hazel brown eyes flit to meet his gaze, catching the multiple meaning of his statement. “Indeed, they have,” she assures softly, lifting a brow. “When there is such charming company to enjoy…” A wink there, a sip taken from her goblet of wine. There is a slight upturn to her lips, when she hears his whispered remark, her gaze lingering with a hint of fondness on him as he pens something on the flyer. Leaning forward as she accepts the flyer, she murmurs back: “So have I… can hardly keep myself from thinking of you.”

“Are you once again meaning to engage my services as a guide?”, she inquires with a raised brow. “As for the events… I am sure we will see each other there.”

Her eyes flit down to read the note, her lips parting in a soft exhale, her cheeks taking on a slightly rosy complexion. Her hazel-brown eyes lift to meet his gaze and she nods.

“The race should prove a most interesting contest,” she assures, with a smile.

“I have, traveled alone or with my guards but no my family stayed back at home, not as interested as I in the tournament.” The Viscount says now she likely knows that the wished to come here to see /her/ and the glance he gives may confirm this notion. “Indeed, I am lucky to have decided to stop for a drink, otherwise we may not have been able to catch up.” He says taking another drink to hide his smile from the wink, and her words flood him with warmth.

It is a moment where he must think that they are indeed in public and must limit any hint of their true nature. He does stretch out from his chair long travel and all his leg brushing across hers lightly could simply be an accident(but is not) is hidden from view by the position of his seating and other chairs at the table.

“Hm, I might need to, should I find myself continuing to get lost amongst the city lest I miss all the events in my wanderings.” He chuckles but nods “Excellent.” He speaks for meeting one another likely at such events acquaintances yup yup! He will look over her features as he takes a drink spotting the color on her cheeks and what he takes as acceptance of his offer to meet in more private climate which brings another smile “I quite agree the race looks interesting.”

“Indeed,” Julieta replies, forcing her smile to remain moderately friendly. “My obligations are many, Your Excellency. I fear such guided tours are no longer for me to offer.” There is the tiniest twitch of her brows when she feels his leg brushing against hers. And even if her face remains frozen in that expression of non-committal friendliness, she will engage in a likewise unobtrusive maneuver, her foot slipping out of the fine slipper she wears, to brush gently against his shin, all the way up to his knee.

“Even so… should you feel lost, inquire at the Academy. I am sure there will be someone available to help you out. Should we meet by coincidence…” The smile she gives him borders almost on a smirk, and it may be no coincidence, her foot slips past his knee tracing the inner side of his thigh. “…I would be glad to… share a few words with you, and maybe introduce you to some people.” The way she says it, her words sound genuine enough. “The race then may prove a good occasion,” she smiles, lifting a brow, while her foot ventures further, all along the fine fabric of his trousers.

“It is quite alright, you have many claims to your time, teaching and the like. I cannot simply expect you to be free such as my tour.” Francois says easily to her words, he will take a drink though he can feel her foot upon him and it's clear from the glance he gives he enjoys the contact, she may feel his leg tense in anticipation of her movement. He takes a deep breath perhaps to cover something else. “I will remember as such, and that would be excellent should such a chance occur.”

He looks to her again nodding “It would indeed be an occasion.” His face is calm and shares her friendly appearance though her gentle touches certainly causing his body to stir, it is only as he thinks they must be secretive which makes him wonder how he can repay.

Perhaps such repayment may have to be offered at another time and place, as for now the common room of the Perky Porpoise Inn seems to offer almost no privacy. Julieta drains her goblet, and refills it at least in part with what remains in the flagon. Mayhaps she has had some company to share it with, prior to the d’Cadri’s arrival.

And finally she seems to have mercy with the Viscount, teasing him no further, as she withdraws the foot, slowly, and allows it to slip back into the slipper left on the floor beneath the table. The cup is raised. “To Four Corners,” the Pearl smiles, before she drains all of it. “A pity I have to return to the Academy… perchance… could you accompany me for a bit of the way?”

Francois looks across the table and finishes his own drink while he’s at it. The mug set up on the table lightly though he can feel of course the withdraw of her foot from his leg which is probably best in long term but he throws her a wink and a pout teasingly for now, though it's gone when he looks back. He will nod to her words “To Four Corners.”

He echos and will look at the next question. “A pity indeed, though of course I would enjoy accompanying you.” He will reach to his pocket and set down on the table pay for both of their drinks and a tip. “Shall we?” he does stay seated a moment to make sure he’s composed but still stand shortly after she does if she does he will walk next to her.

The wink may be noted. The pout as well, but the Pearl of Four Corners acknowledges it with little more than a slight lift of her brow. “Thank you so much,” Julieta says with a warm smile, when she sees Viscount Francois d’Cadri intends to pay for her. “How very kind of you.” It takes her a moment to get her cloak - time enough probably for him to regain his composure. His inquiry is met with an incline of her head, and so the both of them leave the rather crowded Perky Porpoise Inn, where consumption of alcohol and the hour causes the buzz to pick up in volume, and may cause the inevitable brawls and fights later.
