Background
The Young wolf is a noted captain and commander in Wayston's armies. A former Royal Lancer, Sir Kalon has had quite an extraordinary life that has never really reached. He is favorably seen in the Duchy though one could argue he has been abused by the former Archduchess, and his family ever put off. He is known to be Garail through and through, from his martial ways to his own temper. At the cusp of being a Legend, it seems that all Sir Kalon must do is cement his place within history or at least- a house.
Kalon Arkanin was bred to rule or carry on rule. That was the thought his father had ever before he sired the young wolf. Kalon, is the son of Sir Maynard Arkanin and Ginerva Quinn. Maynard was at one time Duke Petr's heir, something a younger brother of the Duke did not expect to be, but as ever Duke Petr proved his own impotence or likely his wife's ability to not quicken, the likelihood of Maynard's Ascention to the ducal throne looked promising. Until Anca Arkanin, whom would become known as the Silk Wolf, was born-and there all of Maynard's fortunes were dashed. The once promising knight became embittered, and then worked to see that his progeny would take the throne that he believed would be his. As such when young Kalon was born shortly after he concentrated his efforts into making sure Petr would see that his son would be worthy of the rite, and pass over his daughter.
This of course did not happen.
And so Maynard Arkanin, whose bitterness pushed him from favor, passed along his Lackland legacy onto his son, by harboring ill against his brother, instead of doing something of merit to perhaps earn a lordship, or better. Still growing up a cousin to the second to be duchess ever, had it's perks. Kalon was thankfully not spurned by his uncle, instead he was trained in the arts of war by Wayston's ever credible master of arms, the famous Sir Rickard Carlsen, a bear of the man who had a reputation in the North of Galenthia for producing the finest knights from nothing. That is what he did, with young Kalon receiving the training that Anca could not, Kalon easily won affection from Petr, in that he now had a boy whom he could see put through his paces. As such, when the boy came of age to be a squire, he made sure to secure him under a fine Romante knight, in order to keep a presence in court and in the King's mind. Sir Daevon Romante, was a fine specimen of knight, and an apt pupil for the young boy to emulate.
And emulate Kalon did. He lived and breathed knighthood-and Daevon was able to hone in on the work that Sir Rickard had begun, and make a fine rider and killer out of his squire. Which given the year, as the war winded down, and Kalon became a man and blooded all in the same time. By 18 he was knighted and he had seen combat in over five battles before the lasting peace was signed between Aequor and Galenthia. He also earned himself a the byname as the Young Wolf, almost as if signaling that his destiny would be to be Duke of Wayston.
Ha.
Still the Young wolf, brought them packed to the tournaments, when he rode the circuit-and ever willing at 18 he would try and find places where he could serve, if only to catch the eye of a noble's daughter in hopes of showing himself a commodity, and to get himself the land and prestige his father wanted..NO..Demanded. Among his own people he learned the tongue still spoke at home by the elders and the Crydish of the border houses as if by virtue alone he could prove beyond his strong Garaili blood that he was to be THE Arkanin
It did come to come surprise when a selection was announced and that Sir Kalon was among the nobles sought. Such an honor was noted by Petr in Wayston, but his father ignored it, still too embittered to care. Kalon attended, and was easily amongst the top of his class along with the smattering of Cassomirs that came. His own raw talent impressed Sir Ray, though by nature of his Garaili blood and seeking ever to impress at times he could easily have been described as brutish or even headstrong, though Cocky was never amongst those adjectives. When the tests were done, he was of his class- a class that produced many fine heroes and even a Queen's Champion.
Kalon served in Firen, attached to the Royal House, and was a splendid sight to behold, finally he thought he could reach higher from his position here in Firen, as there were many fine ladies and houses looking for suitable mates. And the cherry on top was his own winning of a tournament in Gwynain lands that saw him carry home a side steel sword from the royal armory. He was poised for greatness-though that however died with the Succession war. And when the outbreak came, and Anca Arkanin fled the capital. Kalon turned himself to the mercy of Arturo Romante and told the man he could not in good faith go against his house and asked to be released of his vow. Arturo ever a smart and merciful man allowed the act, hoping this might bring Arkanin into the fold- though it proved for naught.
The Young Wolf spent the Succession war, patrolling the duchy's lands and keeping forces out. In one battle ever recorded in the war on Arkanin lands, Sir Kalon lead a small force that ambushed a party of the Thorn's men and routed the company. Rose prisoners were escorted to the border and released. In the eyes of his family he was proving himself to be a man or martial stature and surely a candidate to the Arkanin's daughters, as intermarriage often happened to keep the blood strong. Still no boon was thrown his way, likely due to his father, now deceased's own hatred of the duchess. Command was given to him, by the Duke, Xavier's comment finding Kalon to be an apt leader, he was placed over a company of knights and spearmen in order to see to bandits and other needs of the county once the war was finished.
It had been rumored that Kalon would return to the Rose's service given that he did grieve when he heard of Arturo's death. Still no offer was made by either party-and so Kalon has spent his years within Arkanin lands, garnering favor amongst the Duchy's lords and people-but his star never quite rose.
With this new threat and the need of capable heroes, perhaps like a phoenix he too can arise from the ashes, to protect his house and family now and for all.
On the Grid
If you live among wolves, then you must act the wolf.
Kalon stands just above 6 feet 4 inches tall, with dark hair that that frames his face in a not quite so martial cut. As it is, he keeps it a cropped mass of wiry waves that is notoriously unruly. The beard that darkens his jaw is the same shade, and has been let to grow thick and bushy. His features are angular and rugged, his eyes a deep brown. They frame a nose that might be too long were it not slightly crooked, evidence of a breaking or two. Mouth is wide as well, but full lips even it off. His skin is naturally dark, and tanned by long hours outdoors, and in places scarred, most notably just beside and below his right eye, where a pale line cuts diagonally, disrupting the natural wrinkles caused when he smiles or frowns. His body does sport tattoos-the practice ancient from the Garail. Each dark triangle on his arm representing some story of his life. Long arms and legs are corded and thickened with well-defined musculature, and from the breadth of his shoulders it can be assumed that the rest of him is as well. Still, he has not the ungainly look that some big men do; while his form is solidly muscular, he moves with the fluid grace and quickness of a well-trained warrior.
Kalon, like all Arkanins with strong Garail blood possesses their canny way of thought, mixed with the brash and bravado a male of that culture requires. He is loud, though sincere in his words and loyal to his code of honor and knighthood. His anger rages from cold and killing to the usual boisterousness that comes when a male is challenged. He loves to laugh, and fills a space he comes into. While not a center piece yet on the board. Kalon has the potential to be so. He is confident, and not cocky, honest, brash and loud-and hold loyalty to his friends. His vices include his anger, and a willing to try violence over negotiations.
