Dacian was the second son of Tyveron Romante, a second cousin of Anton 'The Thorn' Romante. Only seven years old at the outset of the Succession war, he was conscribed as page along with his brother Loxias, who, at the time, was squiring with Sir Leuca Tarris, a distant cousin of the Betrayer. After the battle in which the Rose was killed, during which battle Loxias acquitted himself quite admirably, Loxias was knighted and took his little brother, then 14, as squire. A year later his brother was killed and Dacian was captured at Ironhold and transported to Firen where he was kept in captivity until the crowning of Melisande Romante, his fourth cousin, who granted him a pardon due to his youth and good behavior in captivity. After all, he had barely been of age to make a decision when the war broke out, and it was only reasonable for him to side with his family. At seventeen, pardoned and released, he was given as squire to one of her most loyal veterans, Lord Sir Raymund Langer, who put the lad through the rest of his paces, testing his resolve and his loyalty with arduous labor and harsh treatment. It was less a squirehood proper than it was a test of his fortitude and almost a public punishment, with the veteran inviting all and sundry to test his 'Squire' and putting him to task. Knowing full well that if he abandoned his squirehood his life would likely be forfeit, Dacian endured the treatment patiently and humbly, finally becoming knighted in his own right into the Queen's service. His family long dead, their estates dissipated into the fallow lands, he has nothing but his stipend as a Knight and his own resourcefulness to live on; fortunately, the trials of his life have conditioned him to take the fair with the foul, and the Captive Romante is content to have his life and his freedom. He has shown no signs of ambition, rarely participating in tourneys, perhaps simply not wishing to draw any further attention to himself than needed, and his experiences have imbued him with a sharp turn of that poetic, brooding pessimism which in days of yore was known to mark the Knights of House Romante.
Having performed competently in his new role as Brigadier of the Crownlands, Dacian has made himself visible once again these past weeks, and is en route to Rykers with a small contingent to assist in the battle.
