The Iron Wolf of the Rivers was born to relatively simplistic means. Aethelwulf Raskbrook was born to the farming community along the Rask, a small river that wends its way through the land of the White Halls before it empties into Njor's domain. There he had the typical life, learning to farm and build. He was good at it, but he always, always, had his sights on the ships and the mighty men who sailed them. He wanted to be a Vigamandr, and the moment he turned 16, he signed on.
His first riad was a thing of legends to hear him tell it. Those that where there, his closest friends politely, and with uproars of laughter remind him, that he was so excited to be participating that he forgot to loot, and thus came home with no treasure. He did however slay a mighty warrior, would be his next comment, to which those who were there might comment back: A farmer with a pitchfork.
Either way, to Aetherwulf, there could be no better life, and he thus continued to Raid. His second raid he remembered to Loot and, he actually battled in a shield wall against the soft main landers and took his first slave. He began his legend in earnest, and discovered the words of the gods. A seer accompanied them on this raid, and this seer spoke long with Aethelwulf, planting the seeds that would see him become a Jarl.
He made friends, he gained skill, all the while, listening and praying to the Gods of his people. He learned of the portents and signs, and when he had acquired enout gold, he purchased his own ship. A Small ship, but his own. He acquired crew, and after more Raiding, he got more ships. The Local Jarl was irritated that this upstart would command more than a few of the ships and tried to have him killed along the Great Salt River during a raid of the Parthians.
This did not sit well with Aethelwulf. Taking many wounds, he slayed his would be killers, Drowning one in the great salt, and hanging another while he killed the third. When he returned to his home along the Rask, he calmly walked up the Jarl, challenged him to a dual, and as the jarl accepted, expecting an easy kill, Aethelwulf slammed his Axe into the man's skull.
Aethelwulf became Jarl and nobody questioned this, and thus earning the byname: "Iron Wolf of the Rivers." Referencing both the Rask where he rules, and the Great Salt where he killed those sent to do him and his harm.
Since then, Aethelwulf has only seen to the protection of his people, and assuring his raids are successful . He has written a Code of Honor, a conduct as he calls it, that included One Hundred Ways a Warrior should act. Most end with the two words: "Kill it." Since becoming a Jarl he discovered the benefits of the fairer sex, and it is said, that it will be a Woman that finally kills him, for a set of eyes and ample cleavage are all it takes to distract him, and when that happens, there will be a day that a woman calmly imbeds an axe in HIS skull and take his Jarl-dom. He's said he's fine with this, for at least the last thing he sees will be pleasant.
Currently he is one of the Jarls in support of both the current Thangill, and in support of Abigael Vilhjalmsson . Though he believes this to be a benefit to his people, he would have no issues breaking off this support if either threatened them.
